Our Story

Teva Oriata, founded in 2014, is Oregon's sole pupu 'ori, filling the gap as the remaining west coast state's all contained the most abundant pupu ori in all of the US continent. Originally from Oahu Hawaii, Angie Jackman fulfills her dream to share her passion of the Tahitian culture (and Polynesian culture) to the pacific northwest.

Tahiti and all of Pasifika have faced colonization under which dance, tattoo, language, philosophies and all ways of Indigenous life were oppressed and even outlawed for hundreds of years. We give thanks to our ancestors who persevered. Today, dance is one of our most beautiful and expressive forms of resistance. Dance carries a'amu (stories) and abundance of historical and current culture meant to be shared, perpetuated, and done so respectfully. So, let's dance!

Thursday, October 10 will be a day of workshops led by our esteemed judges, Friday, October 11 we’ll host a panel discussion exclusively for participating ra’atira. The following day, Saturday, October 12 will be a day of sharing in the form of competition.
